We are the King’s Coalition
Almost one in three people are Christian.[1] The apostle Paul said to the church at Corinth, “Now I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all may agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you may be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgement.”[2] Now, I don’t know what the population of the Corinthian church was in 53-57 AD, but Paul’s command seems impossible for the church to have “no divisions” and for all Christians in one area of the Roman Empire to be “in the same mind and in the same judgement.” If we also take Paul’s command as a direct communication to us today, how on earth can 2.4 billion people fulfill 1 Corinthians 1:10?
Whether we like it or not, this is what we are commanded to do as the body of Christ. Scripture teaches us that we are a “kingdom of priests and a holy nation,” a “chosen race” and “priests of the Lord” to “proclaim the excellencies” of the Lord.[3] Yet, with over 200 denominations in the US and over 45,000 worldwide,[4] how is this possible? We can’t even get on the same page with everything our local congregation believers, let alone thousands more. And we thought Paul’s instruction to the Corinthian church was difficult!
As creatures made in God’s image, we should embrace our unity and equality, yet recognize our diversity.[5] This is what we are going to do as “The King’s Coalition.”[6] This ministry will contain contributors from different Christian backgrounds to create a safe place for the Church to converse in a civil manner to discuss any differences while maintaining a sense of unity. Christ is our King and we as his Body are his Coalition.
